The Living Loom Exhibition

Live Exhibion project designing an exhibition space to hold 35 hand made tapestries.

As part of a live brief with the Verdant Works in Dundee working with the Dundee Tapestry group. We were tasked to design an exhibition space to show 35 Tapestries.

We designed an exhibition space that captures tapestry making through a life sized loom, creating an immersive, tactile and interactive experience. As seen in the story board, people bring unwanted clothing that can be repurposed, shredded, stamped and then threaded through the exhibition loom. Connecting the person to the space/exhibition. Tapestries are hung on these displays as part of the exhibition. The visitor leaves behind a material that is now part of the living tapestry, bringing the exhibition to life. Leaving the space for someone else to add to and enjoy.

We liaised with the Dundee Talestrey project on the finer details and measurements to create technical drawings and communicate our Design.

We built a 1:1 Scaled model of the circular display and filmed the build on a green screen. After we edited this onto the Verdant works background so we could see what the display would look like in the setting.
